Car Tax

Hi,

My car tax is due this month and my Co2 is 124g which means I will pay £120 (£66 6 mths).

However the rate for a 124g car is changing to £90 from April 2010.

I feel its unfair to pay £120 for a year and if my tax fell one month later I would save £30.

Is there a way to only pay the £90 or at least 1/12th at £120 and 11/12th at £90?

I know I could pay for 6 months, then pay £90 in Sept, but still I feel the cost should be apporiated and built into my renwal cost.

Presumably if the cost was going up you'd be equally happy to have this apportioned and built into the renewal cost?

Park your car on your drive and next tax it for 01 April.
Not only save on tax, but save on fuel as well. :D
  • Tax your car for a year then, when the new rate comes in, apply for another years tax at the new rate and apply for a refund on the existing. I would think the refund would be at the old rate but ring DVLA to make sure.

Sounds to me like he is saying that his tax expires at the end of this month, but he is concerned that if he buys before the 1st of April he will end up paying more!

    Is that right?

Have you tried punching your details into the online taxing system and seeing what price it gives you? :D

  • When the first change in road tax came in (the below 1.5 litre above 1.5 litre split), someone with a car under 1.5 that had paid the higher fee went to tax their car again they got a discount due to the change.
    Might it be the same?
  • Basically the administrators at the DVLA have something wrong again.

May tax runs out at midnight on the 31st of march, the tax rates change from 1st April 2010, some going up and some going down.

My car is low emissions so its going down £30, however the clowns are still charging me the higher rate as they have no clue. I wont be paying full price and I just want to warn other people who may not be aware that they are stealing from us yet again.

They ask for low emission cars, they get low emission cars, but still charge the same price, go figure.

I am not certain at the moment how to pay only £90 as the website is asking for £120, but I will hold out until they change it.
