Sorry - I'm confused. You're moving somewhere (from rental?) so your agent is advertising your current property to let, but you've asked them not to because....?

Sorry, I should have made that clear; I'm selling my flat so it's the "For Sale" sign I'm referring to.

I purchased my property six years ago through YOUR MOVE, I called them several times to remove their board...

but it's still in my garage today! If I use them in the future will I get a discount cos I've got my own board? :D

I doubt it, but you could always modify it and use it yourself if you ever had a private sale/let!

Its quite pricey for a sign if you only want the one!

Maybe you could ask new agent to take down old agents sign when they atre putting theirs up?

The new agent's sign is now up on the front of the house.

Thankfully, it's also conveniently positioned so it can be taken down easily. Shame the other agent didn't think of that ;)

Sorry - re-read your post and although it's confusing think the guys above are right. The board belongs to the agent and he should remove. But as your 14 days is not up, he's still advertising. Who knows, he might sneek in a last minute buyer!!
If it's not down in the next 24/48 hours, ring him.

The main reason for my concern is the old agent has updated RightMove yesterday with an amendment I didn't ask for and I've not heard anything back from them so I'm gathering my options on the chance they don't carry out my instructions. :)

Many long leases prohibit attaching such advertisements to the building, you may want to read your contract before you add another sign.

The new sign is not physically attached the building so that's not a problem.

I will check my lease if there is any damage to the outer wall when the sign is removed; but thanks for the advice.
  • I hope your old agents are quicker on the uptake than the ones our seller used. The house we recently moved to was up for sale and to let at the same time with two different agents. In the end our offer to buy was accepted and the seller contacted the letting agency to tell them to take their to let sign down. This was the begining of last November. He contacted them about 5 times asking for it to be removed, it was till there when we moved in 3 weeks ago!

Ive phoned them 3 times (once a week) since the day we moved in asking them to take down the sign, they always say theyll get right on to it but havent. So last weekend Id had enough and I managed to take it down myself and took it to the dump. I had already warned them the week previously that if it wasnt gone by the end of the week it would be disposed of. They said theyd take it down (again). so its been dumped, they had their chace (4 months actually!) so tough.

I hope your agent is a bit more pro active.

If they don't take it down then contact trading standards. There are strict rules on estate agent signs that they need to stick to. A call from TS would move them quickly.

I don't find the original post confusing at all, not sure what you're reading into it, G_M, that I can't see but nevertheless I agree with your last advice.

The confusion comes from using the term " I was moving elsewhere;" instead of "I'm using another agent". The former sounds like the person is moving house, i.e. renting!

You are even more likely to be prohibted by the lease from attaching anything to a communal wall than displaying a for sale sign in the window of your flat.

There is also the possibility that the wall you've attached it to doesn't even belong to the development so yes you do need to check with the Managing Agent for the residents association or the Freeholder as soon as possible and get their written authorisation to put the board up on what is likely to be communal property.
