Economy 10
I recently got a really a massive electricity bill and have been querying it with EDF. I asked what hours were peak and off-peak on the economy 10 tariff and they said:
12am-5am Off Peak
5am-1pm Peak
1pm-4pm Off Peak
4pm-8pm Peak
8pm-10pm Off Peak
10pm-12am Peak
Now I've checked my meter and the readings bear no relation to this. The meter is electronic and shows peak(2) and off peak(1) but they seem to go up at totally different times. So where do I go from here? Its a new build flat so I would be very suprised if the meter was broken. I'm a bit confused with what to do next?

Sounds about right for the off peak timings.
Don’t forget however that it is normally only the hot water and storage heaters which are connected at the off peak tariff .
All other appliances TV washing machines fridges cookers etc are on a 24 hr normal peak rate
If you use the “boost” button for more hot water out of E10 hrs you will be charged at the normal on peak rate as will any electric fires connected to a socket0 -
If your meter is only showing 2 readings, are you sure you are on Economy 10. This seems more like Economy 7.
Don't know about Economy 10, but on 7 you will have approx 7 hours of cheap electricity (your rate 1) during the night and the rest of the time is peak (your rate 2). Everything switched on during these times is charged at the appropriate rate, not just the heating and hot water.
Your meter usually has a light pulsing off and on against the rate in use at that time.0 -
I got one of those digital electricity monitor things, works really well and shows when the power is high. There is definitely something wrong with the timings as the off peak doesn't go up during the day, even if I leave the heaters on. My bill says economy 10 but it doesn't match up with what I'm seeing.
Got an engineer coming out to check it soon.Save save save!!0 -

I have E7 and
Rate 1 = Low
Rate 2 = Normal
If you have a 2 rate mechanical meter, then low is the dial at the top, and normal is the dial at the bottom, mistakenly making people think that the first rate is low and the second is normal.
However, in the world of electronic meters, R1 is peak and R2 is off peak.0 -
Much as I hate to disagree with you, but I have an electronic meter and Rate 1 is low and Rate 2 is Normal.
This is confirmed on the card that was left when the meter was installed."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Actually Premier, that card is showing rate 1 is low and rate 2 is normal -as Gurn stated.
Notice the person who changed your meter didn;t put down the readings on the old meter when it was taken out...0 -

What you say the card indicates is correct, but it was me that said thatGurn was contradicting me.
Regarding the completion of the card, it wasn't a meter change but a meter installation; it was a new build"Now to trolling as a concept. .... gotta love it when someone comes in to "correct" someone and turns out to have gotten hold of the wrong end of the stick
R1 on ours is Low and R2 is Normal. I also found that I got apparent discrepancies when I connected a power usage meter and compared the findings to my meter readings. I kept records and sent them off with a fresh batch of meter readings to E:ON and they had an engineer out within a couple of days to look at the meter. Despite saying all was correct, I noticed the discrepancies mysteriously had shrunk to barely noticeable proportions almost instantly...GREENS M'SHIP OFFER NOW CLOSED SO PLEASE DON'T ASK ME!Olympic Debt-free Challenge £2150/£11900 = 18.0%NOW INVESTIGATING AN ALTERNATIVE TO MY IVA - I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND ONE ANY MORE!0
