October half term holiday for under £1000??

am I asking the impossible here?!?!

We are a family of five and are looking to take a week away in October school hols - budget is set at £1000 max.

Open to suggestions, have considered everything from Eurostar/Disney to a week in the Sun eg. Majorca. Don't want to fly more than 3 or 4 hrs away. can fly from Manchester, Liverpool or Leeds on Fri 20th (evening) or Sat 21st. Would do charter or rough & ready!

If money no object would love to do a cruise or an All Inclusive holiday, but I think that's pushing it a bit on £1k!

Car hire from Gerona £85 carjet

flights from Liv-Barcelona gerona fri 20th-fri 27th £712.80-more than we paid so maybe you could get this cheaper.

plus close enough to visit porta ventura for a day-nearly as good as disney.


Total £937 -might pay a late arrival charge as well 20 euros or so

ours are nearly 12 7 and 4 and it would seem to suit them all.

Try looking on Ebay.

I picked up a key camp holiday in France for September for £10 and saw loads of other bargains on there, one which has gone now, was an all inclusive holiday in Tenerife for 6 people, it went for £750.

we got Murcia flights for £42 for Oct school week.
Look hard at all the budget airlines and keep checking. Accom is cheap in october. You can budget up to £700 for flights and still have change from your accom.

Not impossible, coz I've just done it!! Well for four anyway...

Flights to Naples x4 with BA £368
Villa from the Owners Direct website near Sorrento £240
Car Hire with Hertz £150

Grand Total £758!


Don't forget the internet is a wonderful thing if you can put the time in. My kids wanted to go and see Pompeii (so do I!). So looked for cheap flights to Naples first. Incredibly BA came out the cheapest, and daytime flights too. Then looked for villa to fit in with flights. Used Owners Direct. Contacted the owners by email got confirmation they could accomodate, so booked it and the flights. Hunted around for car hire. Booked it! All cheaper than any package deal I could find to that part of Italy!

You said that you are looking for some sun - make sure you check the yearly temp charts for the area you are planning to go to.

We went to Majorca at Oct half term hols and were very disappointed - not only was the weather dull/cool but the whole place was closing up for the end of the season.

IMO Canary isles are the best bet for the weather at that time of year and are approx 4 hours away.

I'd agree go further south for October half term, pick winter holiday destinations, they won't be closing up.
