possible scam - claiming to be cheap advertising for your business

Hi all. I think I have been 'duped and as a result have lost some of my hard earned cash and wanted to alert others before they are targeted by this or similar scams.I fear this and similar companies are operating all over the UK!

Over a month ago now I was approached at my shop at a busy time by a company named 'Call Card UK Ltd' and a man by the name of (Text removed by MSE Forum Team). He claimed he was offering advertising for local businesses in the area and for as little as 30 -40 pounds I could get my business featured in an emergency leaflets to be distributed to over 10,000 homes in my area. This seemed v cheap and was backed up by and order form come receipt.

I haven't had any contact from the company and when I try and call the number I am fobbed off and they claim the leaflet printing is still in progress!. the company doesn't have a website and is nowhere to be found on google! The moral of the story: if its too good to be true it probably is, DO NOT hand over your cash or cheques! go for a local comapny advertiser with a good rep do your research. dont be tempted to give your money to call card uk or any other advertsing company for that matter!:(

This is a total scam and well publicised.

I am a receptionist and get these calls regularly.

The other ones that call are advertisingin the hospital news or Police/fireman
publications.

They are all scams.
If you have an company name and address, you could report them to Trading Standards, they already know most of these companies anyway.

Wow! You really know your stuff! I paid cash and gave no bank details so luckily no standing order! I can't believe I was duped:eek:

You're lucky, had you paid by cheque he'd have taken the details from there and filled in the standing order!
