Hi,
my girlfriend and I (in our twenties) are looking to buy a house for the first time at the beginning of next year....
We currently both work in London and are renting a flat together - we are looking at moving back to where we both grew up herts/cambs area anyway here comes my question...
I want to be able to view a map online where I can flag train stations (and add journey time info) and hospitals and draw circles round them (say a 5 mile radius) to see what villages/town look the best to look for a house - does an application exist?!
I ask for stations/hospitals as I will have to remain working in london for a while and the gf is a nurse so will need to be in a decent drive of a hospital...
I know I could just get a large map and do it - but wld prefer to do it online where I could change and add things as I go...
Anyone know if I'm able to do this somehow???
Thanks!

There is something but I can't remember what its called. something about commuting....
you put in the area where you want to work and an acceptable commuting time and it highlights the stations you should be near.
Anyone remember? I think PasturesNew found it.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. commutefrom.com does something similar, but not what the OP's actually asking for as it's specifically for travelling into London.
The app doesn't exist to my knowledge. What I'd do is use google maps to trace the train route in globrix and the rightmove maps.0 -
I thought there might be a googe maps add on for something like this.
I think one way to narrow the search is to look first at the hospitals that have suitable jobs.0 -
tracing paper over the map-on-the-wall will enable as many amendments as you like without damaging the map.Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)
new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,0000 -
rightmove.com allows you to enter railway stations as a search location and put a radius around it. It now uses google maps to draw a circle around whereever you based the search from, with all the properties marked within the radius.0

Nah!
"
England was squeezed between rebellion in Scotland and war with France when King George II commissioned a military survey of the Scottish highlands in 1746. The job fell to William Roy, a far-sighted young engineer who understood the strategic importance of accurate maps.
Walk into Ordnance Survey's Southampton head office and you'll see Roy's name engraved on the curved glass entrance doors, yet his vision of a national military survey wasn't implemented until after his death in 1790.
By then Europe was in turmoil, and there were real fears that the French Revolution might sweep across the English Channel. Realising the danger, the government ordered its defence ministry – the Board of Ordnance – to begin a survey of England's vulnerable southern coasts."0 -
thanks for the replies - I'll carry on searching...0
