    I could be way off here so dont shout at me but maybe introducing a short nap during the day can help I did read somewhere that children who dont knap during the day instead of wearing themselves out and sleeping until 7am it can have the opposite effect and actually disturb their sleep causing them to wake in the night or get up really early. If she is only two then a short knap shouldnt cause major problems for her daytime routine :-)

  • ive been wondering that xlolly as i've heard it too, but my daughter just 2 yrs still has at least 1.5hr most days pending on what we are doing. My son 3yrs doesn't usually, but maybe 1-2 a week naps on the sofa for half hr (I wake him) when my daughter has her nap. We feel he needs this top up.

    However this morning after waking approx 5am, at 7am he was yawning, looking shattered and clearly should still be in bed, my husband announced they both need to sleep later like they used too. I agree, but apart from bashing them over the head (not recommended), I am at a loss as to how to achieve this. For the first time in ages, longer than i can remember, my 3yr old son said "mummy i'm shattered" and at 10am went to bed and slept till i woke him at 12.30pm.

    He clearly needs more sleep but i can't stop them waking early.

    We all need help cos 5am isn't my idea of fun either.

    PS i am consistent and don't say things i don't follow through so this isn't a recent power struggle, i think its linked to body clock somehow. We've blackout blinds and curtains, dull nightlight, great diets, exercise etc. So i've really run out of ideas, this blip is still blipping me........

    I remember reading somewhere that some children do sleep better at night if they have had a nap during the day. I know our 3yo DS still takes a nap at least a couple times a week. Sometimes I think you just need to try different things and see what works.

    Accept the fact that 6.30am is your new time for getting up. It's a scientific fact that young children are early birds due to their body clock. In ten years time you'll be the one trying to get her up for 7am!

    We stopped our daughter from falling down stairs by putting the stairgate across the top of them, not by locking her in her room.

    Absolutely! It's a shame you view your child as such an inconvenience!

    Lack of sleep is a nightmare - but children can't tell the time - fact. You could just ignore her, leave her alone in her cot/room.... or you could accept that as a parent you have a new, earlier getting up time.
