ipod touch and skype

If I bought an iPod Touch could I use Skype to make calls? I just can't bring myself round to spending so much on a iPhone, I already have a normal mobile that does the job of normal calling, sms etc. I'm off to America the end of the month for a holiday so was thinking of buying a Touch. Thanks

    Yes you can: http://www.skype.com/download/skype/iphone/

However, something to bear in mind is that a lot of public WiFi hotspots only allow certain ports (usually Web and Email), so you might not be able to get access to Skype on these hotspots.

And from a bit of research I've just done, the iPod Touch doesn't seem to have a built in microphone, so you've have to buy a separate mic for it, and only the 2nd generation iPod Touch supports that.

There is a skype application. Only works over wi-fi, and you'll need the headphones with built-in microphone.

I would suggest maybe buying a 3 skype phone, but I suspect they will charge for Skype-to-Skype calls when abroad. Some else may know more.

Yeah, remember you'll need to be connected to WiFi for it to work. Consider a cheaper alternative for the iPhone, (e.g. the Toshiba TG01 :D- £149 from Orange) which you will be able to sell on after your trip with minimal loss. It is compatiable with Skype.

I recently bought a touch and it does indeed come with a mic although it is on the earphone line and not on the device itself.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
