Bank takes six days to credit a ATM deposit

I'm fuming.
Last Wednesday (July 18) I deposited a cheque for £100 through my branch's ATM machine.
On the Friday it should have cleared so I was shocked to see it hadn't even been deposited into my account.
Today still nothing, so I called the branch - no answer.
I called HO and after the eventually got through to them and it turns out the ONE person with the keys to the ATM machine had been off work the entire week and they would look at it today.
I was very cross as I needed that money over the w/e and I didn't even get as much as a sorry.
Instead she said they would backdate it and it will be shown as cleared funds.
Lo and behold checked online and it's there but uncleared.
My gripe is someone may have fallen into financially difficulty because of this !!!!-up.
I want my bank to know they can't get away with this. I now can't withdraw the money until Wednedsay.
What shall I do?
Thanks

IMO an ATM with a deposit facility should be emptied at least once a day.0
-
Was it an ATM in a branch or standalone?
If it was a standalone ATM then consider the time taken by the cash collecting company to get it from the machine to their base then to the bank head office.
EDIT :- Just re-read your post about the branch atm - I'd complain!!0 -
Complain in writing to the branch - copy to their Customer Services department (details should be on their website)
Stress that this has left you with access to the money over the weekend (would it have been cleared by then anyway?) and that when you raised the issue you didn't have any form of apology offered.Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0 -
yes the bank i work for the atms are emptied daily - i end up taking the atm keys (don't fit in my girly bag)0

The collection disclaimer on the T&C/envelope/receipt is usually something like ‘up to two working days’. Sometimes they promise cheques will be processed on the same timescale as counter deposits, especially if their standard clearing time is long. Failing to make contingencies for a member of staff going on holiday (i.e. not a last minute emergency) is a breach of responsibility by the bank. There are supposed to be two cashiers with responsibility for ATM deposits. Could you name and shame the branch or bank responsible for this disgraceful service?0

Take Halifax as a case, their T&C states that they will credit the cash deposit via ATM within FIVE working day, and cheque will up to SEVEN working day.
So, look out here then.Spend smart, and save more.0 -
I am sure that if you go in to your bank they will over ride the uncleared situation so that you can take some cash out.0

whats that got to do with it iamchristi - thats as long as ATM's are emptied
