My husband is in hospital (sectioned under mental health act)
He suffers with Bi Polar and has burnt all of our paper work.
He deals with all of the bills usually and I cant remember having a gas or elec bill since before xmas.....thw thing is I dont know which company we are with...how can I find out without any paper work? He always paid cash and there really isnt a scrap of evidence anywhere!

  • Hi,

have a look at the meters, there should be a wee plate saying 'property of Eon, Scottish Power', whatever, phone them up for starters.

have a look for how to do it here -

    http://www.ukenergy.co.uk/pages/area.html
  • You should contact Consumer Direct on 08454 040506 (or follow the below link for the local telephone number).

    ww.consumerdirect.gov.uk/about/how-we-help/

If you explain the situation they should be able to provide advice, and tell you who your supplier is.

Might also be worth a look on the Consumer Focus website help finder to see if you qualify for any assistance due to your circumstances:

Hope you manage to sort everything out.

After speaking to them today it appears we havent been billed since September as there has been a change in the billing route and we were missed!!! Our bill from Sept to March will be huge! I just presumed Hubby paid it before he was ill other wise I would not have left it so long grrrrrrrrrr.

I suggest you switch to monthly direct debit to avoid this happening again. Also, by paying cash on quarterly bill you are missing out on all the best tariffs, which are only avaiilable on monthly direct debit.

dial 0870 604 1528 to find out who your gas supplier is then ask them if they also supply electric if they do not they can tell you how to find out.
