MBNA 2% BT charge questions

I recently got an Abby card (9 month 0% BT card) and balance transferred £4000 to it over the phone. I was told the 2% charge was applicable.

1. Is there any chance they will try to charge £80 and not the specified £35 caped rate that is stated in their documentation?
2. Will this £35 charge sit accruing interest while the £4000 is being paid off?

Also, is there a chance the fee won’t be charged at all? When I applied for the card I spotted the 2% info, but was told that it’s not applicable during the 9 month introductory offer when I phoned and asked about it. The Abby telephonist did ask if I wanted to be put through to an MBNA rep for conformation… I should have agreed :(

Would it be worth while complaining?

Thanks :)

Capped at 2% to a max of £35.

Call them to ask if they are applying it to your initial transfer, when I got my abbey card about 2 months ago, no charge was applied, though I did call to confirm this when the card was activated.

    Thanks deemy :)

They already told me when I made the transfer that I would be getting charged. I was wondering if they might still wave the charge or if it’s worth complaining as I was given bad info when I applied.

I would also like to know if the £35 charge will be eligible for interest and therefore be paid off after the £4000.
  • Complain - I did and they refunded me the charge, they did promise me I wouldn't get charged. Also done 2 subsequent BT and haven't been charged - I told them I don't want to do it if I'm going to be charged.
2p off is still 2p off!

If they do charge a fee it will be included in the minimum payment on your first statement. So no, it won't sit there accruing interest.
