Accepting Payment - pls help

Hi there,

Quite new to ebay - especially when it comes to selling!

Just a quick question, I have sold something on ebay and received a mail from Paypal now saying that I have a "pending credit/debit card payment"
and that I need to upgrade my paypal account to Premier or Business Account to accept the payment...the email states I can accept or reject the payment...

Does this mean that the buyer is trying to pay into my paypal a/c using a credit card? I clearly stated in my listing that I only accept Paypal...
I dont really wanna upgrade my paypal a/c to Business, as I dont even use ebay that often to sell and I am happy with my Personal a/c... plus they would charge me 38p for the transaction, not much, but I only sold an item for a few pounds!

does this mean i need to contact the buyer and ask to pay by paypal instead??

Please help!!!

Tx

the buyer is trying to pay with fees funded from a credit card.

only 'business' accounts can accept credit card funded fees (thats how paypal makes money by forcing people to upgrade)

unfortunatley if you refuse, you open yourself to a non performing seller strike

ask the buyer if he can pay from cleared paypal funds (i.e. load his account from his card, then transfer funds to you within paypal), offer them a small discount for their hassle

can I advise that in future, beware of larger value transactions through paypal, there are a lot of T&C that people simply miss!

If you ticked the 'I accept PayPal' box on your eBay listing then you are obliged to accept all types of payment including payment funded by a debit or credit card.

    Hello
There is nothing to stop you upgrading to accept this payment then closing that PayPal Account and opening a new basic one, just remember not to select ' I accept PayPal' next time.
I did this after I was forced to upgrade when I sold some bit's n pieces. :-)

If you haven't upgraded/downgraded before, you can upgrade your paypal account to accept the payment and then downgrade it again, but you can only downgrade once.

If you intend to sell more items, you have to decide whether not being able to accept all paypal payments (and not being able to display the paypal logos) is going to lose you more in sales than the additional fees you pay.
