Personality Disorder

Am on higher care and lower mobility because have a really severe anxiety disorder. I'm given the lower mobility because I get very upset outside and have to have someone with me. Have just returned from seeing my psychiatrist who has also now diagnosed me with a personality disorder. All of the above is due to childhood abuse apparently (Although I find it hard to connect the two as I'm nearly 50). Do I have to now inform DLA of the diagnose of the second disorder? The only thing that could change would be mobility and I guess I could risk losing my higher care. Doesn't matter what I've said in the past re mobility or how long I need help for, they always come back with one hour. Should I leave well enough alone? Also does anyone have any idea what a personality disorder is? Mine is apparently emotionally based. Also he just said personality disorder and the only thing i keep hearing about is borderline personality disorder. Is there a difference?
Thanks for any help

Hi dont do anything till the next time you need to fill your dla form. Dla is there for the difficulties you have in everyday life not for the named condition.
Search out mental health forum uk and you should find your condition on there0 -
Thanks. I know its not for the condition. It's just that i've always had difficulty convincing them of the problems I have outside and wondered if this would be an added bit of information I could give them. Think you're right though, will wait for the renewal. Renewals seem to come really quickly though.Only had tribunal in october which got backdated for 8 months. Add that to the six months since and i'm due for renewal in six months already lol. Thanks for the help.0

i hope this link makes it clearer... http://www.rcpsych.ac.uk/mentalhealthinfo/problems/personalitydisorders/personalitydisorderskeyfac.aspx
i have BPD and i still dont understand it, i think its one of those things you cant explain as there is no defenate explination.
i dont see why the dla award would go down, its an extra problem which creates extra problems so surely requires extra care.

thanks for writing this angelvoice222. i am in the same boat and i have had a lot of negative feedback, BPD is not popular with GPs, that's for sure, in my experience. this diagnosis does count towards being eligible for DLA as it does effect a lot of stuff. good luck to all in this situation. xx0 -
Is it definetly BPD and not one of the other personality disorders? Gnerally PD's come under 3 clusters:
Cluster A (odd or eccentric disorders)
-Paranoid personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.0): characterized by irrational suspicions and mistrust of others.
-Schizoid personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.20): lack of interest in social relationships, seeing no point in sharing time with others, misanthropy, introspection.
-Schizotypal personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.22): characterized by odd behavior or thinking.
Cluster B (dramatic, emotional or erratic disorders)
-Antisocial personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.7): a pervasive disregard for the law and the rights of others.
-Borderline personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.83): extreme "black and white" thinking, instability in relationships, self-image, identity and behavior.
-Histrionic personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.50): pervasive attention-seeking behavior including inappropriate sexual seductiveness and shallow or exaggerated emotions.
-Narcissistic personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.81): a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and a lack of empathy.
Cluster C (anxious or fearful disorders)
-Avoidant personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.82): social inhibition, feelings of inadequacy, extreme sensitivity to negative evaluation and avoidance of social interaction.
-Dependent personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.6): pervasive psychological dependence on other people.
-Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (not the same as obsessive-compulsive disorder) (DSM-IV code 301.4): characterized by rigid conformity to rules, moral codes and excessive orderliness.
I have BPD and depression and am on MRC and LRM but i have a friend with BPD which is more severe than mine and she is on HRC (though no mobility). I would defiently mention it though as BPD definetly for me causes extra care/mobility needs.
edit: sorry seen in your OP its emotionl type so it is most likely bpdThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Try the BPDWorld site it's great & there's loads of nice people there, plus it's run by a BPD sufferer0

Can I ask when people use the acronym BPD I thought this meant Bi-Polar Disorder but now I'm seeing it to mean Borderline Personality Dissorder. Which is it or can it be both or have I just missinterpereting it and it's never meant Bi-Polar?."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0
