Help! I am clueless and need some advice.

Sorry to sound so needy but I am lost and I dont know where to go for help. If anyone can give me some advice or ideas I would be so happy. First the back story. I left my job in IT to go traveling for a few months, the financial crisis was beginning but not yet in full swing. On my return the job market had dwindled and the economy was in the toilet. I couldnt find work any. My Nationwide bank account reached its limit so I put the card in a drawer. O2 continued to attempt to take money until I contacted them and paid them privately. Apple also took money until I did the same. This wiped me out. Obviously Nationwides charges threw me over my overdraft. I received a letter today from a debt collection agency marked 'Notice Of Litigation' stating that unless I make a payment they will take me to court. Nationwide have obviously sold the debt to this company. I cannot find a job and Nationwides charges have pushed from being in my overdraft (£1000) to owing a debt collection agency the full overdraft plus the £300 that Nationwide added in charges. Please someone help me with some advice. I know going traveling was ill timed but no one knew what was going to happen while I was away.
