not sure if i should post here on the benefits section ? please move if i am in the wrong place.
A tenant of ours jacked in her job in the middle of April as she wanted to doss for the summer, she was very honest about it and reassured me by saying she could afford May & June rent and her parents would cover July & August rent. She planned on getting a bar job at the end of the summer.
anyways June rent never arrived and her parents were totally disgusted with her plans and refused to cover her rent so after an honest chat she moved out and is now dossing on the floor of a mate.
She has text me today asking me will i fill in a proof of tenancy form for the council ?
I dont see why we should fill one in .... she doesnt live in our house anymore and doesnt owe any rent as thankfully we took arrears from her bond when she moved out. why would she need one ? ?
many thanks ?

You could confirm to the council the dates of the tenancy if they contact you (and enclose a prepaid envelope), but I wouldn't personally do more than that. It may be that she's trying to claim backdated housing benefit.
If the ex-tenant is trying to claim to the council that she still has a tenancy with you, then don't touch the idea with someone else's bargepole!0 -
the latter crossed my mind, and i for one dont want to get involved in lying to the council.
I wont contact her until i have filled in the form and posted it back, and then i will tell her i have noted on the form the dates in which she rented from us.
Thanks for answering so quickly.0
