Hiya my friend at work has been told off many times since May (since the co upgraded to a new st bernard internet monitor system). My friend has always stayed within his alotted time limit ( we have to stick to 5 hours a week personal internet use). He has always been amazed at how long he had been in the internet for and couldnt belieive it.
Now after being told off a third time for stupidly higt internet use time and he has challenged this. He has kept a log of all internet time ( amounted to 5 hours over the last two week) as they are saying that he is using 8 + hours over the week. Now he has checked his log of all internet sites visited given to him by IT againts the log he kept and there is around 3 hours difference. It seems that "banners/pop ups" are being give "time" by the st bernard system. They give so many minutes/seconds per every banner/pop-ups that appears on that particlar site and there seems no rhyme or reason to the amount of time given to a banner by the system. Basically the banners have clocked up 2 hours plus time which has been added to his internet allocation time. He has been told by the IT people that certain websites have tons of banners and has been told to be aware of this. As we have a pop-up blocker system companywide how can he be aware of this? Does anyone know if St Bernards does include all pop ups in a work monitor situation and if so is this normal?
It doesnt seem right that time collected because of web banners should be counted as if you had been on that website for a few minutes? Especially as we have banners/pop blocked.
I hope this post makes sense and if anyone has any suggestions, my mate would be most grateful.

It sounds stupid to me. If the banners are being blocked anyway then the company can't complain about use of their bandwidth or time wasted by employees."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I'm amazed his company allows 5 hours a week personal use, unless this is outside of work hours!!0

Lunchtime is outside of work hours if you don't get paid for it, so fair enough.0

Does it block the request or just block the display of a popup? Check with your IT department.hazeyj wrote:It doesnt seem right that time collected because of web banners should be counted as if you had been on that website for a few minutes? Especially as we have banners/pop blocked.
No it doesn't. More importantly their system has a 60% error.
(8-5/5) * 100% = 60%
They're going to lose any employment tribunal if they sack someone based on that system.
Surely they can provide your friend with a log of his activities on a daily basis and the time he's used. I'd have thought he'ld be able to view such information via a web interface.0 -

It just blocks the actual display of a pop...
Your equation makes perfect sense.
I will get him to ask for a day to day log of his time.
Thanks for your tips!I love this site :beer:0
