Personal finance software

Hi,

I am looking for some easy to use personal finance software for use in the UK. Also I see there are quite a few websites which offer a free online service.
Has anyone got any recommendations?

Thanks :)

Can you be more specific about what you want it to do? For example - do you want to view all your account balances in one place? Or to be able to set up transaction reminders? Or to forecast your incoming/outgoing funds?

Probably all of that. To be honest i'm not sure what i'm looking for as i've never had any finance software but my boss swore by ms money so i guess something similar (for the UK market) would be good.
To be able to automatically download statements from my bank (Barclays) would be a big plus. After a bit of searching "personal accountz" looks a possibility.

If you want something like MS Money, I'd suggest MoneyDance. It's easy to use and you can use it for very basic functions or for more complex tasks. There's a free trial, so there's nothing to lose by giving it a go. It's not free, but it's cheaper than Personal Accountz, and from a quick look at the Personal Accountz faq, I'd say MoneyDance does more.

(MoneyDance isn't specific to the UK, but you can set it to whatever currency you want - this is done on a per-account basis, so you can use it for accounts in several currencies at the same time.)

I don't think there is any software which will automatically download statements from UK banks - the UK banks don't support that function.

I use a combination of Account Unity, which is an account aggregator (lets me see numerous accounts in one place) and MoneyDance, and it works well for me. Between my partner and myself, we have 12 current accounts plus a number of savings accounts, children's regular savers, ISAs etc, and I don't find it onerous to keep track of them all using that combination.
  • Thanks for your help blueberrypie i'll try moneydance :-)
