tesco wont change baby milk

charlies great nan bought her some formula when we went up there this weekend. however she bought the wrong one. didnt have the receipt.

i thought id call tesco before going there to see if theyd exchange it. it hasnt been opened and still has the tamper proof tab secure. tesco will not change it, especially as it has no receipt. why not? because they cant put it back on the shelf and have to write it off as bad stock and being £7.50ish a box they dont like doing this.

i appreciate i didnt have the receipt but i cant quite get my head round why they couldnt do a straight exchange.
There's someone in my head, but it's not me

You wouldn't want to buy baby milk second hand would you?

I'm not saying you would have done, but others may have stored it in an inappropriate location causing the milk to spoil. Tesco won't want to put something back on the shelf that may be unsafe to babies, nor will they want to write off the cost when they don't know if you bought it there or not.
Here I go again on my own....

    My sentiments exactly Becles.

They can't be too careful with baby products.

yep, keep the receipt in the future. And buy it yourself!

    never considered that beccles.

great nanny always buys her formula but as weve recently changed her to stage 2mr mob described what it was and looked like (shes on cow & gate comfort) and to be honest this stage 2 c&g does look very similar.

no probs though, ive stuck it on ebay. wether it goes or not i dont know.

Having the receipt doesn't change anything, there are rules about selling baby milk and not exchanging it unless there's a fault.

Asda take back baby formula, and it is all written off, none put back.
As far as I'm aware, the only rules that apply to formula are that you can't do promotions (ie BOGOFs or coupons - except milk tokens) on it, as obviously Mothers milk is best for baby.

it's all down to some sicko in the us who injected baby milk with bacteria for what ever cause he felt was worthy of risking babies lives :(

He bought x amounts of baby milk, used a needle and syringe to inject the milk with nasties and then returned it to various stores in the area. As the security seals were in tact and obviously not tampered with the tins of milk were returned to the shelves to be re sold. Quite a few babies ended up hospitalised before the powers that be realised that there was a pattern to the illnesses and did some detective work. Since then it's been common practice to accept baby milk for return.

I know nothing about babies or formula milk.
Can anyone explain whats all this Stage 1 / Stage 2 thing, Cow & Gate website is rubbish. SMA website explains differences in their products - they seem to have either 1, 2 or 3 on them, are these the stages? 1 and 2 are both used from birth upwards, Stage 3 is easy 6 months to 2 years.
Can someone explain, if you use 1 and 2 from birth upwards what is the difference, when do you choose stage 1 over stage 2, or do you use them together?
Why can't Anthillmob use stage 1 again now she/he is switched to stage 2. Why can't she/he mix them. I'm confused.

Artificial milk is made from cows milk with added vitamins and minerals. Milk consists of fat, carbs and protein. The protein consists of curds (casein) and whey. Curds are the solid stuff and whey is the liquid stuff.

First stage artificial milk is higher in whey than curds (60% whey, 40% curds) this is as close as science can get to breastmilk.

Second stage artificial milk is higher in curds than whey (80% curds, 20% whey) which is harder for baby to digest and so stops them from showing signs of hunger for longer. Clever marketing indeed by the baby milk producers who have invented the term 'hungry baby'!
Just run, run and keep on running!
