Faulty Technika TV

Hi
I bought a TV from Tesco 11 months ago - 12 month guarantee - and last night it's developed a fault meaning there is no sound or picture.

I called the technical helpline for Tesco as instructed and they said that they can collect the TV for inspection and repair. Fair enough, however there will be no further guarantee on these parts or the TV so if the fault reoccurs in a few weeks I'm on my own. Not happy about this I asked if I could take it to a store and get a refund instead due to the lack of aftercare etc following this repair and tha the TV's obviously a bit rubbish to break after 11 monthss of light use in the bedroom.

I was told that I can't do this without a reference no. from them confirming that it's unrepairable. I might be able to get an exchange if that's the case but even then if I got a new TV it still doesn't get a new 12 month guarantee apparently as it's on the same receipt.

I think that this seems ridiculous! Has anyone else had any experience of this type of thing or any tips?

Thanks!

They don't even have to provide a 12month guarantee.

Even if you get another fault, you may well still be covered under the Sale of Goods Act, so don't worry too much.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

It's fairly standard that warranties/guarantees only run from the time of purchase and don't 'reset' even if the goods are replaced.

Remember though that the warranty is in addition to your statutory rights, so you might still have recourse if a fault develops further down the line.

Of course, you can still write to Tesco's and explain the situation to see what they say, they might offer you something as a gesture of good will.
