If you've had a gas bill from Scottish Gas, look for your gas supply number or Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) - if this starts with '74xxxxxxx' then your gas pipes are most likely looked after by an Independent company (i.e. not national grid/'transco') and this can delay the moving process.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

My advice is just let them do their thing - you should receive your switch date in the next 4 weeks or so.0 -
We don't have a gas supply number or a Meter Point Reference Number on the Scottish Gas bill, only a Meter Number...starting with G4A0...
Thank you all for your replies by the way!!0 -

It should be there (it's in the regulations)
It may be down as the M number, it'll be 10 numbers long (if the first number is 0 it might not show)
The G4A0.. number is (or should be) your meter serial number - check it matches the real meter, and it may be worth checking what SP have too.
I'd lean towards it being too soon for SG to have been told, but another option would be that there has been some confusion over your address and either SG or SP have it wrong (or both I suppose).0 -
No,I can't find this number.
The G4A0... is the meter serial number yes, and it matches.
We got an email from S.Power today saying
"We expect to start supplying your gas in around 4 to 6 weeks' time.
We have advised your supplier that you are switching to ScottishPower.
We will ask for a meter reading within the next four weeks. We use this reading as the start point for your account with ScottishPower.
We send this reading to your previous supplier who use it to calculate your final bill."
I guess I'll call again in few weeks to make sure something is actually going on!0 -
Make sure you give your new company an opening meter reading on your switch date, they'll pass it to your previous company so you can close your accounts0
