Selling a car for spares/repairs

Hi

I am selling my car for spares/repairs on ebay.

It was involved in an accident a few months ago and I've just got round to selling it. The battery is flat now but when charged it still drives.

The damage is cosmetic and would need a new front so in theory it could be drove again with this replaced but would cost me too much to have it done.

I am a bit worried as I have never sold a car before and I want to list it so that people know it is for spares and parts however it could be rebuilt again. Is there anything I need to cover off, I am trying to avoid someone buying it and then trying to do it up and holding me responsible for damage I haven't listed. Does this happen and any advice would be great.

Just be totally honest and describe the car exactly also put photos with the item description and clearly state that the car is for 'Spares or Repair'. This will let potential bidders know what condition the car is in.

Aslo make sure you have the V5 (log book) & MOT (if applicable).

Was the car written off by your insurance company? If so then you should state this but if it wasn't then there is no problem in you selling it and the buyer repairing it and putting it back on the road.

I would do a 10 day listing giving bidders the time to come and personally see the car and assess the damage.

It wasn't written off because I was only 3rd party :( so thats why I can't repair it.

    Great thanks

If it hasn't been officially written off then selling as 'spares or repair' is fine. Make sure, on the receipt, you put 'sold as seen' &, if possible, itemise the damage as far as you are aware of it & keep a copy of it. Finally, make sure you get the buyer's details - verified if you can (driving licence or whatever) - & get them filled in on the seller's tear-off section of the V5, which YOU must send off - don't give the whole document to the buyer for them to forward to the DVLA, if they don't bother & there's any sort of comeback, the car will still be registered to you.
