Sainsburys wont exchange without receipt

Options
I went to take a pair of kids jeans back to Sainsburys today to exchange, labels were intact etc but as they were a present, didn't have the receipt. I was that told Sainsburys have a new rule they do not exchange anything without a receipt. Has anyone heard anything about this?

I'd be surprised if this is a 'new' rule. They have no way of knowing it was actually bought without some proof of purchase.

Normally they will only exchange or give a gift voucher as per most supermarket giants, it said this in their terms and conditions, but now this option has gone so it must be a new thing.

    Wouldn't surprise me.

You only have to look at the number of "credit notes" appearing on eBay to see how the shoplifters could make a small fortune without the risk of leaving the shop with something under their jacket.

cough cough, i visted sainsburys on saturday with two pairs of tights, no receipt, no packaging. i apologised for this and explained that i had just noticed that one pair had a hole in them...

said I understood if they would not refund and was happy to replace. However they have changed to spring stock, no tights left so they gave me a refund

You were either lucky or the employee didn't give a toss about procedures
    Always ask ACAS

It doesnt matter to me either way, I got a refund :-)

I offered to show the payment on my bank statement and they were clearly brand new and had a huge hole in them!!

Thats strange. I took something back there last week (not a Sainsbury product but bought it there). They exchanged it for me without question.
