Upgrades and extras - consumer rights

I've posted this thread here as it's dealing with a new homes developer but the transaction in question was separate to the purchase of the property so I'm not sure if it's covered by standard consumer rights.
I've recently purchased a new build property and after paying my deposit to secure the property and filling in all the relevant forms, I decided I would like to pay extra to have an integrated fridge freezer and swanky tiles in the bathroom. I made my choices at time of reservation but due to an error by the developer this information wasn't collated property and I had to re-submit my choices 2 weeks after the original decision after I contacted the developer by chance and discovered the error myself.
I was quoted a total price for the extras/upgrades of £1089 (£974 FF & £115 tiles), for which I wrote a cheque and went away looking forward to my exciting new additions to the flat.
10 days later and the cheque still hadn't been deposited by the developer so I called to ask why. After a 24 hour delay they came back to say it was being held by the accounts department because the price list had been changed (no one will tell me when but after my initial reservation) and I was now £100 short of the new required total
£100 is a fair amount of money anyway, but at the same time as buying a new property (and a single first time buyer) the extra money is just a step too far. I don't see how they can change the price after accepting payment. Can anyone help?
