Raised Bed - How much Soil/compost etc

Hi,

Just building my own raised bed, I need to order some soil etc to fill it but not sure how much. The size is 2.4m x 1.2m ans 21cm deep, possibly make it deeper if needed.

I cannot order a tonne bag of anything as where I live there is nowhere to put it, rather order bags. Can anyone work out for me how many bags so I can order in one hit, rather than 4/5 bags a time in my car.

The volume works out as 575 litres, so depending on the bag size you will need different number of bags. Assuming the bags you get are 60l, I would get 10 of them.

Also, it depends if you want your bed filled to the top or you want couple of centimetres below the edge.

Volume by my reckoning is just over 600l, i would'nt get it all as top soil but as 40/60% soil/compost, a drop of rotted manure added as well will help no end. Allow your self an extra bag or two of compost as well to allow for tamping it down a bit, as extra will never go to waste.

Thankyou, I will probably oredr 6 60L bags og soil and 4 bags 60L compost. Plenty of manure roiund here as I am surrounded by farms.
