A lot is made of clawing back overpaid Tax Credits, which have sometimes been paid inadvertently, however not a great deal is done about Tax evasion which must cost the country a huge amount, when is this going to be addressed more thoroughly.0

I would ask him what a Conservative government would do:
1. For people who are single and/or don't want/can't have children? It's time the imbalance was addressed.
2. About people coming into this country and claiming benefits for absent family members: example, husband/wife comes here and can claim family-related benefits for their spouse and children in their home country (who have no intention of moving here)?
3. About the rich and celebrities who can still claim child benefit even if they have large enough personal fortunes to not require it?0 -
The question to ask:
Has he read the 50 Word manifesto, and if so which suggestion will he be implementing first? And how quickly?0 -
How many QUANGOES can be scrapped to save Taxpayer cash?
Will Tories scrap TRIDENT replacement and save £25 Billion?
Why can't COUNCIL TAX be ABOLISHED and Replaced by a FAIRER system based on ABILITY to PAY as suggested by the IS IT FAIR CAMPAIGN?0 -
Should MP's only be allowed to vote on things they understand?
Should the whip disappear into the dustbin of history and MP's be allowed a free vote on everything?0 -
You should ask him if he would increase the rate of VAT or add VAT to products currently exempt.
Good one from vangirl - I'd like to add that, specifically, the Tories had intended to charge VAT on domestic fuel at full rate. Currently there is something of a safety net of winter fuel payments - would the Tories impose the double whammy of abolishing these and and increasing fuel VAT?0 -
I am old enough to remember the nightmare of the last conservative government when the interest rate was 15 per cent, when we were in recession, when people lost their jobs. This present crisis was not of the governments fault so my question is why should we trust the conservatives not to give us more of the same when or if they get into power? They are not natural allies of the middle or working class so how can we trust them not to side even more with the bankers and city investment bankers? They have not historically been on the side of the majority of hard working, put upon tax payers!0

What does george osborne intend to do about pensioners who having been told to save for a rainy find interest(income) halved, companies giving zero increases on private pensions, food costs and fuel increased over winter.0

Here's some quick ideas:
- does he think banks work sufficiently hard to make things clear for their customers in relation to things like APR, fees, terms and conditions? Or is the small print getting smaller?
- does he think the energy companies and energy efficiency organisations do enough to promote information about grants? Scrappage scheme allowances and other energy effiency measures?
PS: just wanted to say how many questions being posed are coming from people only joining MSE this month and their first post being a question for George Osborne, or with a really low post count - hopefully nothing ominous there?? No Labour or Tory peeps in our midst planting questions?? Remember hearing something about netmums experiencing things like this.
Best of luck Martin.

The conservatives have plans for reforming the planning system which WILL ultimately reduce the number of houses built, which in turn have severe impact upon the availability of housing and thus affordability of housing, how exactly will they deal with this?A big thank you to everyone who contibutes to the MSE forums :T0
