What boring family car for £7k?

In my business we service and repair all makes/models. The Skoda is actually a good choice. They are solid and pretty reliable. We look after a couple that are used as taxis and they take the use/abuse well.
I wouldn't say they are uniquely reliable, but when they do come in with a fault they are straightforward to work on and parts are reasonable priced and quickly available (which is important to a lot of customers). Certainly the fit and finish is good and its a rare thing to see one with any rust.
Japanese cars are great for reliability, but when one does come in with problems it is sometimes hard to obtain pukka technical information and parts pricing/availability can be a problem. None of the cars mentioned above is likely to disappoint though.0 -
I will reccomend Skoda

Octavia has a boot thats bigger than the Mondeo and the Superb has a boot you could fit the Mondeo in. Only issue will be price as they hold their value a lot stronger than Fords.
Dueto your budget you are better off buying a Mondeo. Loads of choice and they devalue heavily in first 36 months so good price for a well specced car.
The other option worth a look are the end of line Vectras. They were loaded with plenty of options to clear out the parts warehouse and were being given away new so prices at 24-36 months old should be very competitive.0 -
Thanks for all the suggestions so far, I really appreciate it. The Skoda certainly sounds worth looking into.
Another suggestion that's come up elsewhere is the Honda Accord 2.2 CDTI. This looks good to me as it seems to be reliable, economical, reasonable performance, and very highly specced. It's also a lot nicer looking than the Skoda or Mondeo. Boot
Anyone any thoughts on this?0 -

Having driven the Accord 2.2D I found it a bit thirsty for a diesel. Very nice car however.0
