Hi All

Never ever switched Energy providers (sorry Martin!). Been renting our currentproperty since August and the monthly cost of Gas & Electric is rising rapidly. Started on £200 per month DD , Went to 230 , 260 and now looking at 300 plus.

We are with Scottsh power for both , Inherited from previous tenants.

Everything is Online , My account says I am "fixed price energy online".

I checked with Scottish Power yesterdayand they say my usage is way over what they expect . But did say previous tenant was high around £180 per month. The property has very inneficent insulation and a big old boiler which doesn't help.

My issue is I try some of the comparison sites and they error saying I must have made a mistake when i put in our current usage.

Obviously need to switch , any pointers (Scottish power offered to put me on a cheaper tarrif with a £50 exit penalty , declined as I wasn't sure they were doing me any favours.)

According to scottish power my annual usage is
Gas - 46,689 KWH Electric 9,692 KWH

Any pointers would be helpful

Thanks

Mark

You are using 50,000 units of gas and 10,000 units of electricity and you refused the offer to switch to a cheaper tariff immediately because of a £50 exit penalty? Uhm, you would have recouped that penalty after one month at this time of year with the cheaper prices.

Surely you can just proceed with a quote when the comparison site prompts you - try uswitch. And no need to avoid tariffs with penalties - they are insignificant with your useage.

But my main pointer is - consult an architect, not a switching site!

Are you sure you are inputting those figures as annual usage and not monthly?

    Hi

Thanks for the replies. Got the figures in now. If I use monthly payments of £310 seems to think too high.

Getting savings quoted of around £750 per year coming back. If I take the tarrif offered by Scottish Power that staes around 450 saving.

Advantage with Scootish power is instant switch and I suppose I can let the D Debit take care of the current balance which has just shot back up to £700 with my latest reading.

Should I take Scootish power or jump to EON/Sainsburys ?

    Thanks

Dont use your monthly DD figures on comparison sites use your actual Kwh usage.

I dont know of any comparison site that wont handle those figures, they are high but not astronomical.

And like Kim said, dont be too put off by cancelation fees, with your usage the amount of savings will far outweigh any exit fee.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)
