I.D for sending money abroad

I presented my driving licence card today as I needed to send money to Portugal but the cashier wouldn't accept it and said I needed a"paper" driving licence and told me that the photo card I had was illegal. I tried to phone to my local police station to confirm this but I couldn't get through!

I had to present my full driving licence, my passport and my Switch card to the bank when I transferred some money to Spain.

I think what they were reffering to was the full driving licence, i.e. the photo bit and the counterpart (i.e. the paper bit). However saying the "photocard is illegal" is utter c*ap. Best thing I guess would be to take your passport for I.D.

Mmm. As proof of your entitlement to drive, a paper counterpart is required along with a photocard, but I'd have thought as proof of ID the card is sufficient?

I think (and naturally, may be wrong) the definition of "full driving licence" is the photo card and the counterpart (not the photo card on its own).

In terms of ID requirements each institution will have its own rules. Some institutions may require the full licence (why I don't know, but it is up to them), while some may only require the photocard.

However I may be totally wrong!

Great isn't it when banks see fit to have their staff advise customers on criminal law!

Perswonally I'd rather they spent more time on trying to understand how to make customers happy by:

    a) clearing cheques immediately and stopping ripping us all off
    b) not in effect charging usfor allowing us to pay our money to them
    c) stopping patronising us in their execrable tv advertisements.
