secondary school appeal

My DD didn't get her first choice of secondary school so we are looking at the appeal process. The school she wants to attend has a sports status. She already swims and competes for a local club trains around 7 hours per week and she is doing really well, she also is a member of a local trampolining club. The clubs are based at the school she wants to appeal against. She really wants to try new sports so keen to get into this school. All her friends are going to another school and this hasn't detered her.
We have letters from her swimming coach, club chairman and trampolining coach and she is writing her own appeal.
We are 5th on the waiting list for this school out of 40, if this makes an difference.
Has anyone appealed? or can anyone offer any advice please?

I had to appeal for my ds2's secondary place (he is now in Y8) I used a book called 'How to win your school appeal' by Ben Rooney quite informative BUT.....
The only thing I would say, and I don't know how relevant it is to you or anyone else is I based our appeal on distance, taking more children in some previous years and not affecting GCSE results, the school had science status so brought that into it too etc, and had been told the more emotional side of things didn't come into it. When I actual went to the hearing/appeal they asked me if he had friends going to the school, how many and how did ds feel about this. I was quite unprepared for the emotional angle!
Good luck0
