Growing from seeds to sell later in the year..
Hi, I'm new so sorry if this is something discussed before or if I'm missing the point here...
Basically, my Dad gave me the idea of this time of year, sowing loads of seeds and putting the work in to grow lovely little plants to take to car boot sales and sell later in the year. So far I have courgette plants, cucumber plants, marigolds, sweet peas... amongst others, all growing away in the greenhouse.
I just wondered if anyone else has tried this and what plants were good to sell?
Thanks!:D

I did a car boot stall last year and the lady opposite was selling strawberry plants, she sold loads.A creative mess is better than tidy idleness

beans grow like weeds and yet people seem to want to buy them.
letuce, toms courgettes, and herbs. If you can take cuttings of rosemary ,thyme and even lavendar that cost nothing but folk will buy them.At our plant sale on the lottie bedding plants go a storm, french marigolds are simple.Oh peppers,squash....frankly almost anything, non-gardeners think growing stuff is akin to magic

I will be taking my surplus plants to the carboots to sell (I do a car boot each year anyway) but I wouldn't grow them simply to attempt to make a profit because I don't really think there is a profit to be made unless you do it on a huge scale.
When you factor in compost (remember that you might sow them in a tray then re-pot twice so you use plenty of compost), pots, time, stall fees etc I don't think you can make enough to make it worthwhile.0 -
I took spare plants to a car boot sale last year, and reckon I made enough to cover the cost of growing my own as well as the spares. Tomatoes and squash seemed to go well and there were lots of requests for beans. Highlight of the day was when someone asked me if I had any fruit trees back at my "nursery"!0

What sort of price do strawberry plants go for at car boots?
My strawberry beds went a bit mad last year - we gave 60 away to relatives at Christmas (with patio planters), but probably still have the same number again as spares.0
