Grr - I hate solicitors (Rant)

Sorry, I can't get hold of OH (not answering phone  ) and just needed to rant.
Have just spoken to solic who is acting for our sale and purchase, basically nothing has changed since I spoke to her last week - still waiting for paperwork!
She said we are looking at about 4 week - " How long, 4 weeks" was the very shocked reply from me, to which it changed to at worst case scenario (sp).
It seems to be taking forever - we are now in week no 6, with another four our sale would have taken 10 WEEKS! There is only three of us - FTB below and an older guy above who isn't buying above. God knows how long it would take if we were in a chain of any decent length!
Useless solicitors - just need a kick up the bum! (Sorry - rant over!)

Try & find out what paperwork they are outstanding & see if you can help move things along. If its paperwork like searches from the council then there isn't much you can do.0

Luckily we have exchanged telephone numbers with the vendor - I think I will be ringing him tonight to get him to chase this paperwork with his solicitor. He wanted to be moved by the 29th July - HA!0

We had same problem.Kept speaking to our solicitor and nothing had changed in 5 weeks!!!! She was still waiting for paperwork.
It took that long for the others solicitors to sort things out their end.
Since then I have exchanged phone numbers with our buyers and vendors and we all speak directly now.0 -
I used to think a good solicitor was a dead one, but over time I've come to realise a good solicitor is a dying one tha tells you where the rest of his self serviing sedicous foul ilke are.
Seriously though has anyone met one that is genuine, honest and hard working?
The last one I had, i travelled 200 miles to visit (was working away), I was on time but had to wait, then was told we had to wait for some document from the vendor. When asked how long he said 'it depends upon when they send it'. He didn't think to ring me beforehand, even though he knew I was paid by the hour.
I ended up getting him to ring them, he then said they were going to send it so I got him to ring them back and have it faxed. I won't bore you with the details (probably too late) but after 10-15 minutes worth of bullying the worthless b@stard had done what he was supposed to.
I hate these people and their arrogance. It is about time the whole system was overhauled and these self serving pieces of excrement were jobless and hopefully suffering miserably.0 -
Seriously? A 4 year old thread. Stop it!!0

don't all you posters get it...a solicitor is rarely at fault, as they are simply the agent of their own client and go as fast as their client instructs.
sooooo often my clients will say 'Steve', that's me, go really slowly but don't tell anyone else in the chain. Problem for me is those are my instructions and I have to do that....so I get it in the neck.
Remember, lawyers get all their fee once the deal goes through so we are keen to get there asap.
So make sure the seller or buyer are not spinning you a line, as no lawyer just lets a basic sale or purchase just sit there, as the estate agents call is bad enough to get them moving - no lawyer like the town's agents chasing as agents are a source of work and go slow means no repeat referrals.
but you all made me laugh thinking you have the culprit...the lawyer.
oh and stop using 'solicitor' when you mean unqualified conveyancing person - which most posters on this site get for shopping around and missing out on an actual 'solicitor' for £50 or £100 more in cost only...but hey, you saved money.
My rant over too OP:rotfl:My posts are just my opinions and are not offered as legal advice - though I consider them darn fine opinions none the less.:cool2:
My bad spelling...well I rush type these opinions on my own time, so sorry, but they are free.:o0 -
Your story is tame compared to my daughters - her solicitor has taken possession of the mortgage proceeds from the bank by telling the bank that completion was taking place later that week, when in fact no completion date had been agreed by the seller, and my daughter has neither signed the contract, exchanged the contract, or paid a deposit. In fact she told the solicitor on a Friday she was withdrawing her offer due to no completion date in sight after 3 months - this resulted in her solicitor sending the bank a letter on the following Monday requesting the funds being in place for completion the following Friday, and the bank complied! So now she has no property, her solicitor has the money, and the bank say she has a mortgage! What does that say about the legal profession? Is there anyone out there who can help her?0

Is she going to go ahead if they do give a completion date shortly?I am a Mortgage Adviser

If that's right then the solicitor had no business getting the money from the lender and will have to send it back and compensate her for any consequent losses.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -
