I work for Handelsbanken so am perhaps well placed to answer some of your queries.

Each Branch is empowered to make it's own lending decisions and as such each can set criteria for new customers.

Some will have minimum salary or a minimum deposit amount. Others will specify "high net worth".

It depends to a large degree on geography and the criteria will differ from one branch to the next. But the consistency is that we look for people with above average cashflow / good surplus income - offering an unrivalled level of service and a local contact / account manager.

The best bet is to locate your closest Branch, and pick up the phone!

Why don't Handelsbanken start a normal retail banking service then? Then obviously do it elsewhere and are successful otherwise they wouldn't be expanding like they are. They seem to have a load of branches as well considering higher criteria than other banks.

from what I've heard in the rumour mill, clients at Handelsbanken typically have salaries of £100k+ savings of £50k+ and debts to match. They are very good at what they do, but you have to be very good at what you do to use them.

I spoke to them earlier and no minimum deposit and no charge on accounts.
