  • The readings are definatly round the right way

    I have electric central heating

I have a strange electric boiler called a 'Heatrae Sadia ElectroMax'.
It is on 24/7, there is no possible way of putting the water on a timer. It is either on or off.
    Look it up on google.

I tried turning the water off for 24hrs. This had no real effect at all. The day readings just seem to spike incredibly high. I just don't understand how we can possibly use that many units.
We are sitting freezing with blankets in the evening just to try and get the readings down. It's just not working

Why are you on E7 tariff with electric central heating?? Where do you live that it's freezing in March? What temperature do you class as freezing and what as comfortable?

  • Economy7 is not the best rate but that's not really the key issue

Outside temperatures are -1 in the mornings and about 2-3 in the evenings.
So the house usually sits at about 8-9 C.
Again, this is not really the issue. The concern is the 50 units of electric being used in a fairly inactive house

Unless I have read this (http://www.gasapplianceguide.co.uk/Electromax%20Brochure.pdf) wrong it has a timer to allow it to be set to E7 times. Given that the hot water and heating of fed by two different elec curcuits then I would have guessed that both can be timed only to use night rate elec.

  • Just did a quick reading. From 7pm last night until 7am this morning. 40 units in the day and 35 at night. 75 units in 12hrs!

For E7 tariff to be of any benefit that should be nearer 25 day, 50 night.

I suggest you speak to someone about how you control your boiler so it is only active during the night rate period.
