Wonga - Please avoid this company!!

I got into a mess with Wonga and couldn't afford the repayment. I owed £760 and couldn't afford it. I emailed the CEO Errol Damelin explaining the situation and within 1 hour they agreed to freeze the interest, and put me on a 12 month plan of £63 per month. I won't be using payday loans again, but if you are experiencing problems with Wonga just write a brief email to Errol.Damelin@wonga.com and this should take the heat off.0

A while ago, I ran out of money before payday with not enough food to last (couldn't borrow - I'm in an IVA). After having read the terms and conditions of Wonga properly, however, I decided that, as desperate as I was, the terms were too ludicrous to accept. I went hungry, and was happy to do so, rather than saddle myself with a liability like those interest rates.
If you're reduced to having to borrow from these parasites then you possibly should be looking at other options to resolve your financial issues.
I'm not without sympathy for anyone who finds themselves in a hopeless fix - but, no matter how desperate, you shouldn't accept a loan without carefully checking and understanding the terms and conditions - OR without checking your bank balance regularly.
Good luck!

I lost 2.5 weeks work in February due to DD having emergency surgery for a burst appendix. I am self employed. No work, no cash! I cut right back on as much as I could, but in the end used Wonga for a coupla hundred till I got an invoice paid. I left it till the last minute possible to pay as little interest as possible, it went in same day, and went out today as arranged. The £20 it cost me was SO worth it, as whilst I could go hungry and cold, I could not do that to my daughter.0 -

A brilliant example of how these loans should be used, and justification for their existance.
It is when they are used by bleating whingers who have a sad,sob story waiting for why they cannot pay, that the problems start.Space available for rent0 -

Shame on you! Even for an apple, that is appalling.
Perhaps you can advise me on another matter? My mad old g*t of a neighbour started hammering on my door at 2.30am this morning. 2.30AM!!! Can you believe it?!? Fortunately, I was still up at the time, playing my bagpipes... :rotfl:
In response to Joe Black - I DO sympathise with him and his particular plight and agree with Peelerfart - but Joe, as Peeler says, was an example of how to look after the situation properly. I don't have a child myself, but Jasper (my dog) should never have to suffer for my problems either. I make sure that he has enough to eat for the month before I fuss over myself.
Happily, Jasper supplements my meagre income by freelance work as a locksmith - every time the vet is mentioned he makes a bolt for the door...:D
Apologies. It's Friday and it's been a long, hard, week. I can't help myself. It's Apples2's fault.

Just to add my 2p. I've been stupid enough to deal with most of the payday loan companies and got myself into a position where I couldn't pay back.
Wonga were brilliant when you were running it well, but as soon as the brown stuff hit the revolving blades they were a bit of a nightmare. But they didnt sell it on to a DCA which suprised me.
There is one other one which I've dealt with (I'm not giving the name, as I dont want to risk encouraging others to borrow this way) who always pick up the phone promptly and its someone who seems to have their head screwed on right - that said, I've never gotten into trouble with them...
ETA - I've not spotted the company in question mentioned on this threadProud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0
