The post above is EXACTLY how payday loan people should be used, in the short term, for amounts that are easily repayable when taking into account the interest. If you think about it, the extortionate rate -it's not that much if you have money for less than a month - possibly £10-15...The only trouble arises when you are dependant on them to survive..

  • i have just been put £650 over drawn because of wonga. i took out a loan with them some months ago them with one thing and another i have had to put all my debits with a debit management company thy contacted wonga to arrange repayments and received a reply to except the payment arrangement three month have go by and they have been receiving payment then this week end 27th i go to my bank to find that i am over drawn by £650 i found my bank to find out why i have had to wait 3 days for them to show on my account and the are 3 payments to wonga for a total of £650 now when i started with the debit management i changed my debit card so wonga did not have my new card details but as i have found out now they put the payment throe on my old card and the bank payed them so i phoned wonga to find out what was going on and all they did was list all the charges and payments off to me and said basically tuff luck we have the money so we don't care. they need to be investigated as to the way they conduct business they had agreed a repayment and should have kept to it i now have a big overdraft to repay plus interest and charges and best of all the original loan was for £300 they are a complete joke and don't deserve to be in business and banks should not be allowed to allow payments on debit cards that have been canceled
  • I'm surprised your DMP company didn't tell you to open a new bank account with an entirely different bank, although perhaps that's not standard practise....

Has Wonga definitely taken everything they think is outstanding? If not, change your bank account sharpish!

Problem is, just because one dept say they will take a payment plan does not mean another will not have a go at getting payment owed.
Wonga will not care and to be fair, why should they ? It is not their job..They loaned you money and want it back, end of.

I have used Wonga once and I am no big fan (although I had no problems at all as I took the money and paid it back before the date ) but I am never really sure what people expect when using these kinds of companies.
I honestly think people need to take some control over their lives and borrowing and just be honest that you borrowed from a company who have the ablity to debt your card ( which is not just a loan thing, some mag subs do the same as do Readers Digest> took me ages to get that cancelled after my father passed away) and they have taken back what is owed..

I am really not trying to be mean

I don't understand why anyone ever uses these companies.

Why would you borrow £300 from a company like Wonga? Could you not ask a mate to lend you it?

If your friends or family won't lend you £300 because they don't think you'll pay them back, what bloody chance does a random company have? They are ruthless because they have to be!

It isn't always easy for people to ask family/friends. I certain feel very embarrassed and would only ever ask as an absolute last resort.

Whilst I think people should avoid using payday loan companies if at all possible, it can cost you less than going overdrawn or getting into arrears even for a week or so.

I'm sure for every poster who complain about Wonga, there are many more who use the service, pay the monies back as agreed and are happy companies such as Wonga exist.

The vast majority of people who complain are those who break their end of the bargain and then blame everyone but themselves.

It is fine to say "ask friends or family " but what if you don't have any ? What if they are as broke as you ?
An perfect world is a wonderful thing but most of use just don't live like that.

    I wish we did.

Go to the CAB, or ask your bank for a few hundred quid? Sell a few bits and bobs like the TV or similar?

Taking out a payday loan in all probability is just going to make the situation worse. If your credit rating is bad enough that you can't even get a Vanquis card or something then you're asking for trouble.

I would rather turn the heating off than go to Wonga.

I'm with EgdEy on this one.

Would seriously consider selling my soul to the devil before using wonga. I appreciate how people may need to use them from time to time, but I'll never understand why people would borrow money from them unless they are ABSOLUTELY sure they CAN pay it back immediately.
