The best thing is to go for plants that they don't like so anything with highly scented leaves like lavender and rosemary is good.

And yes slugs and snails like tomato leaves.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Sorry to off-topic but compost heaps are a good place for hedgehogs. Get one (or more) every year in my mum's garden, always under the compost heap where it's warm. Net result - no slugs and good composting stuff.** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
