When to plant potatoes

Please could somebody tell me the best time to start putting potatoes out, I was going to do it this week-end but thought maybe still a bit too cold.

Well, there are two traditions:

1) On Easter Sunday

2) When the soil is warm enough to sit on with your bare bum.

Take your pick. :rotfl:


Seriously, though, it depends on where you are in the country. Here in the Midlands I'd wait until mid-April. Ideally, you don't want them poking through until the frosts are well on their way out. If they do come through before then, you have to earth them up or cover them in fleece on frosty nights.

ive put some earlys out already but they do have a fleece covering and it is starting to warm up down south,hopefully they will be ok
