Nationwide SUCKS!

Hi
General wondering; I am currently leaving nationwide due to poor customer service and the charges I have occurred that mount to £700 over 6 years. The charges started when I changed jobs at 18. Sometimes I was a day late in getting money into my account to pay my bills, as soon as they were missed I was charged for missed payment, but this sent me over my limit in which nationwide then charged me again for going over my limit in which I had NO CONTROL over. It was all down to them.
I would love to get my money back but with the courts delaying the case on unfair charges Im unsure of whether they will cough up MY MONEY! Could you advice if anyone has recently claimed their money back?
I am absolutely furious as I have banked with nationwide for 11 years. They kept the record of me missing my payments and going over my limit, but that stopped happening 4 years ago and they wouldnt give me a loan because of this. Even though I have a good credit rating now. Some personal advice if you bank with nationwide, dont get an overdraft and if you do dont go into it! My parents banked with nationwide and are currently leaving them too!

Don't you think you have at least some responsibility for managing your own finances effectively? They kept the record of me missing my payments and going over my limit, but that stopped happening 4 years ago and they wouldnt give me a loan because of this.
Seems a very sensible decision.0 -

Did the charge taking you over the limit trigger another overlimit charge?

Unfortunately, the opinion by some is that Nationwide do have some of the fairest terms of any of the banks but we need to find an answer to the above which might be arguable on UTCCR 1999

Each to their own with regards to leaving a bank but can you reply to the above question and we will see where we go on this. They may have declined you based on credit scoring and income as well. I was declined on a loan based on free income so had to change the length of the loan to get it. Charges from 4 years ago is not the sole reason for a loan decline today. Income, credit score, free income etc, etc, come into the equation as well.0 -
I think i am in your boat !! I too have found out that i had a direct debit bounce on this account. I think paypal tried to take some money out this UNused account about 2 yeas ago, then nationwide charged me for the bounce, as there was no money in the account, they then charged me again for their bank charge bouncing , i now have the same £800 worth of charges as i forgot i even had this account, its not been used for 3 years, its not even in the address of where i live its that old !
So what now? do they keep charging or does it stop?If It's Not Broke Dont Fix It !!

the last time they charged me was 7 months ago because my employer was two days late paying money into my account and my rent was set up to come out the day i get paid. i must admit they didnt charge me when i went over my limit, but did charge £30 for unpaid bills.0

I WAS AFTER ADVICE, NOT CRITICISM. I admit I was imature over my finances when I was 18, but now 22 and have now settled and I can assure you (if it makes you feel better) I have never missed a single payment, never gone over my limit of what is in my control. People like you shouldn't be so judgemental. Just wanted to know if banks are actually giving back money now?!0 -
I would recommend that you change this so that your rent goes out a day after you get paid. Most banks apply debits to the account before they pay in credits so you're running the risk of getting charged each month if the funds haven't cleared. If this was seven months ago you've probably changed this already but it's worth bearing in mind. But it's not the bank's fault that your employer didn't pay you on time or that your landlord tried to take the rent when you didn't have the funds.catbaker2287 wrote: »the last time they charged me was 7 months ago because my employer was two days late paying money into my account and my rent was set up to come out the day i get paid. i must admit they didnt charge me when i went over my limit, but did charge £30 for unpaid bills.Getting married 02.08.14

Not being judgemental.
Just pointing out that in your first post you appear to be blaming everyone but yourself.
And then go on to say
Which is the real cause of your problem.Sometimes I was a day late in getting money into my account to pay my bills, as soon as they were missed I was charged for missed payment
Glad to hear that you are now in better control of you finances.0
