Found it best to use small tubs as water butts need cleaning inside on a regular basis, small tubs are so easy to clean. even use buckets anything that will hold water, why spend your money

Good idea, but I know they wouldn't last long with the dogs... working dogs, would have a very muddy garden and lots of knocked over pots me thinks.. lol

My tomatoes grew better outside than inside the greenhouse last year. Just make sure they are watered regularly in the hot dry weather (if we get any this year!)

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:yes quite understand what you mean there I work with two working labs and boy do they love the water and the mud. My garden is tiny and I grow lots of things in tubs. But I also have a small 2ft wall built around the garden filled with soil so I can put the raspberries/blueberries in as they grow better this way. Before I did this the dogs used to pee and dig up all the plants, lost loads of plants.
Look after the pennys and the pounds will look after themselves:money:

I have 2 springers, a jack russel and a puppy sprocker at the moment. Good to know it is possible to grow alongside doggies. A wall was my original plan, but I am yet to convince my partner and as we're in rented at the moment, thought pots would be good, as I can take stuff with me if we move. Have researched the water butt issue, and have found this: http://www.sww2u.com/Shop/Water_Butts/SMBUTKIT_Mini_Rainsaver_Water_Butt_Kit,_100_litres,_Green.html

Any opinions on the above gratefully received :)

Just had a thought, water butts are fine but as long as they are attached to a down drainer, otherwise they fill up much. The water runs down the drains and into the butt, but thats only because they are more than one pipe leading into the one drain if you see what I mean. I have tubs that I leave out but they have never filled to overflowing even with heavy rain. So you may be wasting your money if it isnt attached to a down drain. I am putting one beside my greenhouse but it will have drains attached to th3e greenhouse which then run into the butt.

I think I get what you mean. I'm going to be attaching to the guttering drain from our flats, should hopefully provide a decent amount of water :)

Yes, I'd thought about this.. was going to get a water butt today but wilko were out of stock. Don't suppose anyone knows of any reasonably priced ones?

I've been considering this one which seemed a decent price, but suspect if your garden is really tiny it may be too big for you?
