Audiotaping research equipment??

Options
Does anyone know what is the current state of the art equipment for recording and transcribing research data?

Is it mini discs these days or hard drive type gizmos?

I haven't bought any for a while so I've been using tapes until now.

I'm costing up a grant proposal and need three sets.

Since research covers a vast scope of possibilities. Can you specify the data you wish to record ?

I need to comply with data protection as well, so no sending over the internet.

The interviews will take place in three areas. Guess I'll be travelling to collect them?

I am a university research fellow, and mainly collect data by conducting interviews. I use a digital recorder from Olympus -- go to their website and search for DSS and you will find the apprpriate kit. Don't forget to cost in the foot-pedal for transciption/playing recordings.

I am baffled by your comments about "sending over the internet" -- my work is regulated by an ethics committee and is fully compliant with data protection rules, but I use email to transmit data files (and take reasonable precautions to ensure that they do not fall into the wrong hands).

You're not on your own, I'm baffled too. I've always used email for sending data.

That's what I was told last week  It worried me a bit

    Thanks for the suggestions :D
