You learn something new every day. Thanks everyone, I stand humbly corrected.
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -
Been back to the bank this morning and as expected they are refusing to budge, I have been in touch with the buyer of my car and he admits he was a bit disorganised and if I didn't get anywhere with the bank he would pay me the extra amount.
Fingers crossed he's an honest guy and sticks to his word.

The guy tansferred the money into my account this morning! There really are still some honest people in the world!

Wow, it's good some people are so honest. These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0 -
wow, so pleased for you, and many congrats to Mr Honest.
you won't be doing that again in a hurry!
Always always count your money. My dad once won something like £1329.89 on the lottery (a silly none-rounded figure), brought it home and THEN counted it, as he didn't want to hold up the queue............. and I'm his daughter and work in a bank! he got a right telling off - and it was 10p out!Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
Just thought I would add my two pence worth here, I have used the paying in machines at HSBC in the past and twice they lost my payments one was cash and the other on a completely separate occasion was a cheque.
Hence after it happened a second time I decided to never use these damn machines ever again and I never have, I wouldn't trust them and would only use them in an emergency to pay in a cheque (never cash) that I know I could easily get replaced if it went missing.0 -

I've used them on many many occasions over the past 4 years and never had a problem with them.
Maybe you're cursed or something

I haven't seen an HSBC one, but I believe that they are similar to the ones that Halifax have, and I have never known one of them to be incorrect in any way.
They count the money themselves, and print a reciept, so there's not really any way in which there can be a discrepancy. And, as an additional check, all the cash/cheques that are taken in are verified manually as well - even though it's always correct.0 -
WOW, just read this whole post............I could never have predicted the ending!!My faith in human nature has definitely been restored!!!!! Am very pleased for you and, let`s hope the current owner either has many happy years of motoring or, makes a nice tidy profit if he chooses to sell the car!

Glad it all ended well for you, but I bet the poor bank cashier has had a hard time.0
