2nd router still no joy!!

Options
well I bought another router (D-Link) from a mate so that I could return the dodgy netgear one to ebuyer and still have access to the net - worked fine (albeit at 56mbps) then just as I got to an important bid on ebay with 23 mins to run - it dropped connection, so ended up havin to plug the Netgear one in again which worked long enough for me to get back to ebay in the nick of time!

So it seems that it could be another problem? Any ideas?

Maybe I should borrow a gigercounter and check for radiation??? lol

Do routers get affected badly by the heat?

Any help appreciated
Cheers
Matt

seems odd with 2 routers now

    1) do you have splitters on ALL sockets in the house ?? (this includes the skybox as it dials out and people forget :))

    2) have you tried unplugging everything apart from the main phone socket and connecting the router to that

    3) remove the front of the main socket and plug into the test socket

    testsocket.gif

as this eliminates everything apart from the BT line

    4) do you have a wireless Video snder or Alarm system ??

    hi

we do have sky, but i dont think its connected to the phone line?

it's a very old house and phone line so I'm not sure if I will have the port you showed in that image, but I will have a look

no wireless video or alarm that could interfere?

    thanks

    HI there,
I dont know which model netgear your using but on mine I can log into the router then goto Router Status then hit Show Statistics

This will then show your Signal to noise ratio up and down the line

One other idea which happened to a mate is that his computer wa picking up the net from someone else router over the road and was using that as the default signal so check, also try changing channels if on wireless
