Living in the Uk working abroad

Me and my husband live in the UK but my husband is thinking about going to work in Spain for the summer. Neither of us are working at the moment or receiving benefits however we are due to have a baby in May so we will have to arrange something. Does anyone know how it works with tax etc from abroad?

Sorry that I can't answer your question - are you fluent Spanish speakers and does your husband have a job offer?

Spain has the highest rate of unemployment in the Eurozone at close to 20% so its not for the faint-hearted, particularly as competition from those in the black economy (illegals willing to work for very low wages) is high. If not fluent in Spanish which rules you out of most jobs, you then face stiff competition from established ex pats with similar skills/employment background.

If you work in Spain you will have to register with the authorities and pay tax in Spain.

I agree with Jowo, unless there is a job lined up, your husband stands little or no chance of getting one unless he is fluent in Spainish and even then there is not much chance. Unemployment is 20%, but in some places it is even higher, where my house is (rural Granada), it is 20% at the best of times, it's over 40% at the moment.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
