shuddering when braking
my problem -
I have started to notice recently the feeling that under heavy braking the car seems to shudder, it passed the MOT last October no problem and since then I've done about another 5,000 miles - any idea what is the cause, or more likely, what is beginning to wear out now as it is now at 111,000 miles on a Mondeo.
(The pads and discs have of course been replaced at some stage in the past before you ask, just can't remember when, as I have owned it since 53,000.)

had same problem on my car recently
warped discs was the problem£10 a Day Sept 2010 Challenge: £-7859/£3000 -
Warped disks for me as well. Had this on a Corolla many years ago.0

Uneven surface on one or more brake discs (not warping).
Uncomfortable but not something which requires attention.0 -
Could it be a fault that is operating the ABS when it isn't required??0

thanks all
I am conscious that I am living on borrowed time as I was quoted £450 + VAT to do the cambelt (which has not yet been changed ) and the settlement for my recent prang has established that, at best, the total loss value of the car is £500 - so if brake work needs doing on top of the cambelt then it may be time for a replacement car
Not impressed with Fords - I've had this 5 years and 53K miles; I got 11 years and 86K out of my previous Vauxhall before the local banger racing nut had it from me for £10 -
Who quoted £450 for the cambelt, seems a bit steep. If it was a dealer then try elsewhere.
Never associate with idiots on their own level, because, being an intelligent man, you'll try to deal with them on their level - and on their level they'll beat you every time.
Being hated by idiots is the price you pay for not being one of them.

If you have done 58000 without changing discs and pads and the car has done 111000 - and you think the pads may have been changed before you bought the car, then I think that a new set of discs and pads are long overdue!0

:)cambelt is no more than £250 inc vat fitted
discs most probably warped £80 pair fitted
pads £40 fitted
also if the cambelts never been done you really are on borrowed time:)0 -

what a crazy statement to make over consumable items. brakes wear out (and usually under 50k miles) and the timing belt needing changed is to be expected on any car with a timing belt. the price for changing the belt seems a bit steep though, £200 max to change that i would say....work permit granted!0
