Wow the way you're paying off your debt, Lazy, it looks like you'll be debt free in under 2 years with a few thousand saved too.

They'll be asking you for a loan, never mind the advice!

From another 'boring' poster then, who hasnt entered a pub in longer than I can remember - not that I miss it mind. Also not had a holiday in nine years. What annoys me is when asked every year 'were are you going on holiday' and I say 'I'm not I cant afford one' the reply is always 'neither can we just put it all on the plastic' and they know full well how much debt we are in due to a past life like that.

I have found these days my friends are in the same boat, the old 'aquantences' are no longer............

You are NOT boring but sensible and doing great - well done.

    Lazy,

Ignore these people who are bringing you down, sounds like it is them who need to get a life!

You are sorting yourself out so that you have options. Then in the future you'll have more things to look forward to than just going to the pub.

You're doing great and they are jealous of your will and discipline.

I've got so much to thank this site for I tell you! And all you DFW nerds(!) are fantastic!

Dinkylou - That is very true - once I've paid everything off and have got myself settled financially and gotten used to mortgage repayments etc, I want to start visiting countries I have always wanted to go to - Egypt, Canada, new Zealand etc that is definately something to look forward to rather than going to the pub :D
Was debt free... then went travelling!

All I can say is you have every right to feel proud of your achievements and that you really need to get some new friends. They are obviously jealous of the control you now have over money. They say we criticise others when we see the same qualities (or lack of) in ourselves. So you will probably find that they know they have a problem and see you dealing with yours so they have to criticise. Their lightbulb moment will come in time and you may be there to support them but then again you may have got yourself some new friends by then.

    Good luck :j

  • Hi Lazy,
I think you're doing exactly the right thing. There's one person I have known for a long time, & we used to be pretty much alike - in debt & spending money like it was going out of fashion. I decided to sort my finances out & worked really hard to set up a business (as well as working), save money, not overspend or buy things I didn't need, etc.

2 years on, I've cleared my debts (around £14K), have a reasonable amount of cash in the bank, & am totally happy that I did it - it's been very hard work - 18 hours a day & weekends too! - but I can now look back & see the mistakes I was making, & it's far better to have no debt I can tell you!

My friend though is exactly the same as ever. Every time I speak to him he's come up with some new plan to pay off his debts (which have got bigger every time I see him), & he always gets fed up with trying to sort himself out & ends up splurging a pile of cash on new computers, etc, instead.

We talk a lot about money, but he claims he hasn't time to think about starting a business (yet he spends all evening, every evening on the internet), & he says that I've just been a lucky g*t !!

I guess the hard work had nothing to do with it.

I'd far rather be in my position than to still be in the same boat that he is.
