Hi all,
First time on here and VERY amateur with gardening. I've recently cleared rubble from a small patch in my garden and want to lay down some topsoil and then returf/ grass seed it. It's only a small patch (I'd estimate 6-8m2) so I don't need much turf.
First question is- would turf or grass seed be best for this and where can I get either of these for cheap? Sorry -I've scoured the posts for this and can't find anything and I'm struggling to find turf in such small amounts anywhere! If it helps, I'm based in Kent.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi, first of all I am Biased my family have run a turf company for the last 50 years but not in your area, and I didn't work there.
it all depends on your circumstances if you can keep off of the patch then seed will work ok, however it will take a while for it to develop the root structure to keep it hardy and durable, it should cost less and will turn out as good as the effort you put in.
Turf gives an instant looking result and can be walked on much quicker and is much like laying a carpet. The quality depends on how much you spend, personally I would go cheap and work on it, feed etc. and of course the level will depend as with seed on your ground preperation.
Remember if you are after a bowling green it takes work every year and you will get weeds in time with either solution.
I would go with turf but as I have said I am biased and I like instant results. Try a garden centre or a small local turf company Garden centres are relativly expensive so ask where they get it from the contact them yourself0 -
It will be good time to lay turf or grass very soon, its best to do these jobs in early Spring or early Autumn0

Thanks for your help both of you! I really appreciate you taking the time- I was somewhat worried about the timing too. I've yet to find a garden centre that has any turf available, but I'm hoping that this will change soon if it's the right time of year. Thanks for the turf advice Paul, I think this'll be the way to go, because I prefer instant results too!0

Once they get the turf in that will be about right time, summer can be too hot, so mild weather especially with some rain can help. if you use seed make sure you protect it from birds0
