Thank you very much for your replies, after looking on a Vectra forum I found some well written instructions with photo's on how to change the pipes so I'm setting the other half the task over the weekend though he's not to confident and wants to pay the garage to do it, does anyone have a rough idea on how much they will charge.
Petrolhead69 - its the 2.2 DTI and had new glow plugs fitted about a month ago and as far as we can see doesn't have a priming pump anywhere.
Mikey72 - The car is a 51 reg and has now done around 69,000 miles.
Thanks

We changed the tubes, recharged the battery........and its worse than ever!!! The blinking thing won't even turn over now, it just makes a clicking noise when you turn the key, could this be a knackered starter motor and if so am I right in thinking that its going to be very expensive!0

That would be a bit unlucky. I'd charge the battery again and also try to jump it at the same time.
Any time I've tampered with injectors/leak off pipes they've been a bit of a pest to get going again.
I'd also listen to my OH when they say it would be better getting the garage to do it lol.0 -
Clean the battery, battery terminals, and check the earth on the engine before changing the starter.0

I know it’s stating the bleeding obvious but if it’s got worse after you’ve done something then it’s odds on that it’s related to what you’ve done, probably battery clamp or similar. I think mikey72 is on the right track0
