HMV Prices

I was in HMV today looking for some CD's and dvd's. They seem to be very expensive compared to other places. Is it because Zavvi and the others have closed down. I saw a dvd in t there for £20 but it's about 6 years old and you can get it for less than £5 on-line. The cd's I wanted were £15 each but are less than £10 in other places.
Come on you Irons

yes you hit the nail on the head there zinger, on-line is definitely the way to go, browsing in the hmv shop itself is great for getting a feel of the actual product and finding films or cds you havent heard about before. make a note of what you are interested in then buy it online. The high street is dead as far as being competitive on this type of item is concerned.squaaaaaaaaacccckkkkkk!!!! :money:0

I use HMV a lot when there is a sale on, or a 2 for £10 etc offer, but a lot of their back catalogue stuff is hilariously expensive, I've seen audio CDs for £18 that are available at a normal price of £5 or £6 on Play or Amazon, likewise DVDs, some things £20. In fact I went in on Saturday after a specific CD that was £6.99 on Play, it was £19 in HMV..had it been maybe £8.99 I would have bought it rather than wait a few days for it to come through the post, but no way I would pay that premium.
But then as stated above, the ONLY place to buy DVDs or CDs locally aside from the limited range that Tesco/Asda etc stock is now HMV. We used to have Woolworths and Virgin/Zavvi, so I guess it's a demand/supply thing.Dogs have owners...my cat has slaves...0 -
Companies on the high street need to learn that if they over price things, they won't sell as much or at all, they need to reduce there prices or there will be no shops in the high streets and everything will be online. No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

That idea completely doesn't work.
I use to hear that (or similar) when I worked in a Motorway Service Station shop 15 years ago, about 100 times a day. Guess what, they're still around!

Absolutely, UK2010.
If people think cheapest means they stay around longest, then what happened to Zavvi and Woolworths?
HMV sell a whole range of goods, beside CDs. CDs are the same wherever you get them but people prefer to handle and see some of the other items they sell rather than risk buying the wrong item off the net. They might also pick up a CD they see while they are in there.0 -
I go online and buy things I am willing to wait for.
However if I want something as soon as it is released, I will buy from HMV usually. This applies mainly to PC games for my other half, as there is usually a poor selection of these in the supermarket.
Although I like to browse when I am shopping and it is not the same when shopping online. Just recently I picked up a few bargains in HMV, so I think they are bringing some prices down, however new releases will always have the demand, which will keep prices up.
Game is the same, recently they have had BOGOF on DS games, however the games are priced at £29.99 each mainly, most of which I could get online/at the supermarket for £15 each. A bargain isn't always a bargain.0 -
Two things bug me about HMV. First, massive price manipulation, eg. constant price changes, a dvd is £3 one week, then it's a 'special offer' on 3 for £10 the next. Second, the same dvd/cd can be 3 different prices in store. There are so few high street music stores left though that we usually end up browsing in there. Planned buys are usually internet now.0

HMV also sell stuff cheaper online
On the High Street they have higher bills, so have to charge money, since they're not a charity.
Additionally, I would rather a specialist music retailer like HMV remained on the High Street, since discount stores and supermarket sell only a limited range of music in comparison.0 -

It will happen if stores continue to close due to being so expensive, its like a ghost town in our high street. No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

No thats because your high street has hardly any people left due to Supermarkets. The prices of the shops will have nothing to do with it. It's the independents that mainly go from high streets whilst the brands remain. They'll only go if no one uses the high street in question much anymore.
You can kid yourself till your hearts content whenever you see something expensive thinking the business will go out of business as a result but that's not the case. It's what's called wish full thinking, but ultimately wrong!0
