tracker device discounts on car insurance

during a passing conversation in the checkout queue, we got around to discussing how expensive car insurance was for new 18 yr old male drivers. The lady told me that her son had agreed to have a tracker fitted to his car and not to drive between the hours of 11pm and 5am, she said this had almost halved his premium, has anyone heard of this and if so what companies offer this option.:)

I am currently in process of trying to get my 18yr son insured - I have seen something on gocompare.com re tracker - but my son will probably wish to drive at various times, so not applicable. If you find any insurance co wishing to give a fair & reasonable quote for an 18yr old please let me know.
  • after trying for 4 days and getting passed from pillar to post, i have now got someone at more than who says they no longer offer the drive time policies... got one quote on go compare for 2,400 for third party fire and theft...quinn direct is the name of the company although i have been told once you start the buying process the add ons appear and the price increases

The "tracker" product that you have heard about is from www.coverbox.co.uk

There is another thread about them on here.

Quinn are terrible - see other points currently going on about young drivers insurance or the thousands on the boards about it.

You can also search the forum for PAYD or PAYU car insurance etc, which is what the black box policies tend to be about.

Coverbox are one option. They are a broker so you get a range of quotes for the same policy wording - differing by insurer appitite and rating peculiarities. The billing works like a utility bill will different charging bands based on time of day you use the vehicle, including a penatly time for young drivers.
