I know a few of you have sons around my eldest DS age or older (hes 11) and was wondering if anyone had any advice of dealing with puberty. He has just started going through this and we are having quite a hard time with it, hairs are sprouting, stirrings are happening which are embarrassing for him. Also yesterday I stupidly left myself logged on the computer and he asked to go on it, I let him not thinking about whos account he was on and he has goggled some "things" he shouldn't. I am thinking I need to have a sit down chat but what and how to say things without embarrassing him.
Just be honest and open and don't giggle like you are 10.. like I do lol... Well their faces amuse me!! Blunt is best.. it is normal and fussing around the issue just makes it taboo.. let dad do it!

Explain looking at things online is very risky as there are some nasty things out there that are upsetting and that if there is anything he specifically wants to know you will discuss it with him.

It is a very natural part of growing up.. we all go through it. I do thinkthe worst part for my boys was the spontaneous erections which pop up from nowhere.. DS2 also got a bit concerned about wet dreams so we discussed these with DS3 and said it is all just normal and to be expected.

We also had to explain puberty = the absolute necessity to wash regularly and properly and bought them a deodourant stick.. many schools do not allow aerosols due to asthmatic children so we started at stick ones. Oh, changing school shirts daily also was highlighted.

Other than that we are all pretty open about pubic hair and personal hygiene anyway.. everybody has a body it is nothing to be ashamed of!

Emma - I'm afraid it's a natural thing for him to be curious, for want of a better word, and will have a peek on the computer, my brother used to spend ages looking at the ladies underwear section in my mum's catalogue! Can you censore what he can access? The hair and things standing to attention (!) is also normal. It will calm down, just remember to knock on his bedroom door before entering, I've 'caught' DS a few times and he was more shocked than me. XH was next to useless in telling him anything, TBH he will learn everything he needs from peers and school if you feel it's too embarassing for him for you to speak to him.
Piggers - what a little g$t!! Hope it sorts it's self out before you do actually kill him!
Methekids - have a fab birthday!
Toots - what bag are you packing? x
JillD - WTG you with all that cooking!
Jinky - helloooooooo! x

I've s/s'd the kitchen and living room before work, aired bedroom, DH made the bed and work as normal. Hope you all have a productive and calm day x

Thanks for that pigpen it is all very new to me as he is the eldest and I am from an all girl family - having said that we are all quite open and honest we don't hide our bodies etc. I am a bit worried about approaching the issues as I don't want to embarrass him. We had the hygiene chat the other week although I really don't think that has sunk in either, one of the problems are he still behaves very silly and young which is to be expected so he just brushes everything off - I didn't think about wet dreams at all oh dear maybe I will pass this on to the OH

Thanks for the reply, I think I should order a catalogue or two maybe that will help lol. I do usually censore what he can access he has his own account that has a parental control on - I stupidly forgot to log off and let him go on, when I checked the history he had googled "Hot Naked Ladies" which the content is quite shocking!!!

Oh gosh thank you for the warning about knocking on the bedroom door!! I would like to speak to him just so when his mates etc are talking - if they talk - he dosn't feel left behind, I would prefer him to know everything he needs to know from us.

Sorry for hijacking the flying, but I am very grateful for all advice and replys
